- 5% retention tax for non resident vendors. Asking for this back will incur in paying a 36% capital gains. Best is to find which option would be more lucrative. ( if you are a resident you have two years to reinvest this amount in another property as another permanent home and that way you would pay zero tax. ) There are also other ways around this.
